Healthy Experimentations

Promoting a Healthy Planet and Body

Healthy Experimentations is a project focused on human health and planetary sustainability, exploring innovative ways to keep both thriving. Advances in science have introduced revolutionary health technologies and plant-based protein alternatives, reducing reliance on animal products. The project investigates diverse vegetarian protein sources and sustainable food production, aiming to minimise waste. Sourcing food from donations, local Oxfordshire communities, and nearby farms, the facility also grows its own crops to experiment with nutritious, protein-rich meals.

The site promotes wellness with exercise machines that generate renewable energy and offers an immersive dining experience. To support environmental health, sustainable materials like bio-based insulation and locally sourced timber are used in construction. By merging health innovation with eco-conscious practices, the project fosters a harmonious future for people and the planet.

In summary, the brief for this project was to design a compact, bio-based demountable timber-frame food laboratory. The site for this project was Osney Mead Industrial Estate, Oxford, England. The main pointers from the brief were to have a zero-waste interactive dining experience, a relationship with the adjacent river, on-site crop/food growth for the lab/dining experience and some sort of personal theme and relevant spaces. In my case, this theme was health and, particularly, vegetarian protein research and production.
